tricky trailers

you may have heard recently about a re-edited trailer for the shining by robert ryang that makes the film appear to be a feel-good story, not the slasher flick it really is. i only learned about it yesterday but immediately set my nerd skills to use and not only found the shining trailer, but re-edited trailers for west side story and eternal sunshine of the spotless mind as well. enjoy.

one thing i noticed after watching these is how important a good narrator is for a trailer. all of these are well edited to create the desired mood but the ones that have a narrator are lacking. what they're lacking is "the movie guy" voice. the shining trailer seems amateurish with the whiny voice of the narrator. i was amazed by how much more professional and legitimate a film seems with "that guy's" voice. so if you decide to create a trailer may i suggest finding a deep barritone, and excluding any pussy tenors or altos.
